DESIGN & CONCEPTUAL DEVELOPMENT

Automated Industrial Drone

An autonomous aerial robotic system for industrial inspection and monitoring.

Implemented in this prototype

A* route planning on a 48 × 36 occupancy grid; kinematic waypoint movement; hover-and-scan inspection; thermal threshold alerts; obstacle-triggered replanning; battery reserve return; simulated docking; report export.

Proposed physical system

A quadcopter with a flight controller, companion computer, RGB/thermal payload, indoor localization, LiDAR or depth sensing, and a docking station. Hardware integration remains future work.

How to describe the demo

“This software simulation demonstrates our mission workflow and navigation logic. Readings are synthetic. It does not validate real flight dynamics, SLAM, sensor accuracy, precision landing, or machine-learning defect detection.”

Model assumptions

2 meters per cell · 8 m assumed cruise altitude · 4.4 m/s nominal speed · 2.8 s scan dwell · 55 °C demonstration alert threshold · 25% battery reserve. These are classroom model parameters, not calibrated equipment limits.
